Horizon golf team improves
The Horizon golf team has added more players to its varsity roster as the team improves and recently placed fifth out of eight teams, shooting 483 at a district seeding at Broadmoor April 22. Ian Walker was tops for Horizon, tying for sixth place out of 35 players with a score of 88 in the 18-hole match. Andrew Berthold was next for Horizon, carding a 126 that was good for 27th place. He was followed by Christian Cunningham (29th, 133) and Andy Wang (31st, 136). Head Coach Oscar Stenberg said it was the first 18-hole match ever for Berthold, Cunningham, and Wang. The team has another seeding match this Friday at Broadmoor.
Boys tennis team takes down Pendleton again
The HRV boys tennis team defeated Pendleton for the second time in five days on Monday, taking down the Buckaroos 7-1. Carson Schutt shut out his opponent in the No. 4 singles match and Chris Riviello nearly did in the No. 3 match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Alden Sova battled back from a 1-6 opening set to grab the win in the No. 2 match taking the next two sets 6-0, 10-6. Cole Shepherd lost both sets in the No. 1 slot (3-6, 2-6). HRV swept doubles competition, aided by a forfeit in the No. 4 match. Patrick Humann and Sawyer Bogard won the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-3, Ron Rodriguez and Arthur Finstad went 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 sets, while the Harters (Luke and Adam) won their match 6-1, 6-2. The boys’ next match will be this Wednesday, when they host The Dalles at 4:30 p.m.
Hood 2 River Relay June 4
The annual Hood 2 River Relay race, put on by Breakaway Promotions, returns June 4. The race, which can be done with teams of six, pairs, or individuals, features a six-leg race that starts on Mt. Hood and finishes at the Hood River Marina. Participants start with an alpine skiing leg at Mt. Hood Meadows, then transition to Nordic skiing, mountain biking, road biking, running, and finishing with a paddling leg. Sign up by April 30 before registration costs increase.
