Riverhawks win boys soccer league opener

THE DALLES - The No. 2-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks remained undefeated in Class 4A boys soccer following a 3-0 home win over winless Madras in the league opener for both schools Sept. 25 at the Wahtonka campus soccer field.

 The Dalles senior midfielder and leading scorer Juan Camarillo scored two goals, and junior forward Ivan Santana scored a goal, as the Riverhawks extended their unbeaten streak to eight games.

 The Riverhawks (1-0 Tri Valley Conference, 7-0-1 overall) were seeking to extend their undefeated streak in a Sept. 30 game at Gladstone (1-0-1 TVC, 4-1-2 overall) and Oct. 2 at Estacada (1-1 TVC, 2-6 overall). The Riverhawks have won four consecutive games versus the Rangers over the past two seasons.

 The Riverhawks play their next home game Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. versus the Molalla High Indians (0-1 TVC, 2-5 overall). As of Sept. 28, The Dalles is one of three undefeated squads in the 31-team Class 4A division along with the No. 1-ranked Stayton High Eagles (5-0) and the No. 3-ranked Philomath High Warriors (5-0). The Riverhawks’ prolific offense (4.5 goals per game average) is ranked first among 4A teams along with No. 7-ranked Ontario (6-2).
