League action produced another fresh-faced newcomer plus four regulars on the team of the week at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes. Alisa Ewack topped everybody last week after beating her average by 136 pins in the Monday night Industrial League. We’re always happy to welcome new bowlers to the bowling wars. Nice going Alisa, you beat every other league bowler last week! How about that! Who says you have to be a hardened veteran to be a success at league bowling? Take note everybody: get into those leagues; you’ll have so much fun and you don’t have to be a pro to bowl league.
The rest of the team of the week is comprised of four familiar names in Hood River bowling: Lynn Spelman, Mike Bosse, Jeff Miller, and Randy Nieto — all veterans of bowling action at Orchard Lanes. Pro Jeff Miller topped everybody in the scratch scoring department at the Lanes last week with a solid 678 set that he fired in the Industrial. Is anybody surprised?
Lynn Spelman had a nice outing in the Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies League with a scratch 635 series and Randy Nieto scattered the sticks in the Industrial with a scratch 602 set. We’re only about halfway through round one, but Randy powered his Randy’s Painting team into first place with a 26.5 to 3.5 win over the second-place team. That’s definitely a key performance!
Mike Bosse found the range in the high-powered Wednesday Fraternal League where he notched a fine 222 game. That’s how these guys made the team of the week.
While we’re on the subject of big scratch games, how about young Jeremy Bloom, who stroked his way to a nifty 290 game in the Fraternal. Jeremy is one of our top shooters who has a long resume of big numbers, but it’s always fun to add another to the list. A scratch 290 game is unique because it’s done by getting a spare in the first frame of the game and then striking out with 11 straight strikes! A big string of strikes like that is always fun. Good bowling everybody!
