HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley track and field athletes will get a chance to showcase their talents and season-long preparation this week at the Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) district meet.
Putnam High School in Milwaukie is the host school for the 2026 NWOC championships, where athletes from the nine league schools will contend for district titles and berths in the May 29-30 OSAA Class 5A state meet. District meet field events begin at 3:30 p.m. both days, with the running preliminaries starting at 5 p.m. on May 20. The 3000-meter final is 8:20 p.m. on the first day; other running finals on May 22 begin at 5 p.m. with the girls 4x100 relay.
The Hood River girls last won a district team championship in track and field in 2018; the HRV boys won the 2016 district title, and they also won the Class 5A state crown that season.
The Eagle boys had their best finish in the three seasons they’ve been in the NWOC in 2025 when they finished in a tie for third place; HRV’s girls have placed fourth at district all three seasons they’ve competed in the NWOC. Wilsonville has won the past three girls district team titles; the Wildcat boys won in 2025 and 2023, while La Salle Prep won in 2024.
Head Coach Kyle Turner’s Hood River squad has two 2025 district meet champions returning in senior Jack Miller in the boys javelin, and senior Francisco Solberg in the boys pole vault. Miller is ranked fourth in the NWOC in the javelin heading into district (based on performances in 2026), while Solberg is the top-ranked pole vaulter (13-foot, 6-inch season best).
Solberg placed third in the vault as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore. Miller also is a three-time district meet placer: seventh as a freshman; third as a sophomore.
Two other HRV senior athletes figure to be in the district championship conversation — based on performances this spring. Syl Perrin is a six-time district meet placer, including her runner-up finishes in 2025 in the girls 1500 meters and 3000. Perrin is ranked first in the NWOC in the longer race. Matt Trickey is among the top boys sprinters; he is ranked second in the 100 and 200.
Junior Wyeth Droege is seeded No. 3 in the boys 110 hurdles and fourth in the high jump. Sophomore Savina Davis has the No. 2 time in the girls 1500 in league this spring and the third-best time in the 800. She was second in both events at the 2025 district meet (held in Canby).
HRV has another two-event placer in 2025 returning in sophomore sprinter Georgiana Williams. She is ranked No. 1 in the 200, No. 2 in the 100, and No. 3 in the 400. Eagle Freshman Diyora Khudoidodova is ranked first in the girls high jump with a personal best 5-4.25.
