WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High (CHS) girls were third and the boys fourth at the WIAA 1A Sub-District 4 meet May 15 at La Center High School.
The meet was a qualifier for this week’s May 21 District 4 meet at Seton Catholic High School in Vancouver, Washington. The district meet is a qualifier for the WIAA state meet in two weeks.
Columbia’s girls scored 99 team points at sub-district; Seton Catholic won the meet with 180.33. The Bruin boys scored 84 points — to tie Kalama for fourth; Seton Catholic edged La Center, 119-115, for first place.
Columbia athletes qualified for this week’s district meet in 18 individual events and two relays. The Bruins had two sub-district champions in senior Sara Miller in the girls 100 meters and junior Samantha Evans in the girls high jump. Evans is ranked No. 1 in her specialty in District 4, and Miller is No. 2 in the 100 and 200, and No. 3 in the 400.
Miller was second in both the 200 and 400 at sub-district and was one of eight Columbia individual runner-up finishers. They also included Hailey Tolbert in the 100 hurdles (17.98); Lilah Zimmerman in the 1600 (5:22.02), and Maya Tama in the 800 (2:34,92 PR).
Colby Clark was second in the 3200 in a personal best 10:49.44; Hunter Wang was second in the 300 hurdles (42.01); Thatcher Wallace was second in the javelin (129-8 PR); and Jaime Perez was second in the long jump in a season best 19-7.5.
Two Bruin relays were second at district. The boys 4x100 clocked 45.45 and included Levi Connell, Hunter Wang, Zephyr Pytel and Graham Beck. The Bruin girls 4x400 relay of Mariela Casarez, Olivia Allen, Lilah Zimmerman and Miller ran 4:24.52.
Qualifiers from the Trico League’s sub-district meet and the Evergreen League’s sub-district meet will compete at the District 4-1A finals. Also qualifying for the Bruin boys were: Wallace and Everett Coyner in the 400; Jack Brooks and Oliver Brookenshire in the 1600; Luther Thomas in 3200; Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez in the discus; Simon Caldwell in the high jump and long jump; and Perez in the high jump.
Joining them in the girls side at district will be: Allen in the 800; Maisey Kollman in the 3200; Casarez in the 300 hurdles; Jane Deinhofer in the high jump and long jump; and Tolbert in the high jump.
