Columbia boys cross country runs past Stevenson

WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High boys cross country team’s pack mentality enabled it to easily best Stevenson High in a dual meet Oct. 7 on Strawberry Island.
The Bruins’ top five runners finished second through sixth to score 20 teams points over the 3,000-meter course. Stevenson was led by winner Colton Hollis and scored 39. Hollis won the race by six seconds in 10 minutes, 53 seconds.
Columbia’s five-runner pack was within 23 seconds of each other starting with Luther Thomas (10:59), followed by Colby Clark (11:08), Ethan Hayes (11:17), Everett Coyner (11:20), and Carter Smith (11:22).
Stevenson won the girls dual, 27-29. Columbia’s Lilah Zimmerman won the 3,000-meter race in 12:31. Teammate Cathryn O’Connor was fourth in 13:11, and Maisy Kollman, Maya Tama, and Eda O’Connor were seventh through ninth to complete the Bruin team score.
