Letter to the editor: Protect our rights

Dr. King would be pleased that the president of America is a black man. He might not agree with all of the actions of that president, particularly the manipulated divisiveness brought on by the present administration, but he would see that some of his “dream” is finally being realized.

When he was with us, the Democrats were nicknamed the Dixiecrats for supporting segregation. This is no longer true. Dr. King’s recognition reminds us of how far we have come … and how far we have to go. We need to be reminded.

Expect diatribes for more firearms control to rage in Oregon’s legislature as well as in our Congress.

Oregon’s legislature is Democrat-controlled. Zealots there will push for total background checks which is another phrase firearms registration. No, registration will not protect you from whackos or guns.

It will however denigrate American freedoms and damage the Constitution. And for those that dislike guns, please remember that the right to keep and bear arms is constitutionally promised. Your support to abolish or manipulate that right is devastating to the remainder of the Constitution.

You cannot nibble away at one part of the Constitution without weakening the remainder. Registration’s only use is firearms confiscation. President Obama’s continued support for the U.N.’s Arms Treaty warrants examination: do we need the United Nations dictating our rights? Really?

The new Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, is a rabid, anti-gun Obama minion that supports stringent gun controls for the United States citizenry.

For Dr. Murthy I have a suggestion: clean your own house before worrying about our right to keep and bear arms.

At present over 440,000 people die yearly in American hospitals from medical accidents, elderly mishandling and hospital introduced infections.

That far exceeds firearms deaths of all kinds. But Dr. Murthy and the AMA fail to recognize their problem. It all depends on whose ox is getting gored.
