I must say that picking up a Chronicle lately has been hard to do.
Being from a small community I was raised with the understanding that communities stick together. We rally with support when things get tough. We offer stability and encouragement when we are down and hurt.
We celebrate our wins and recognize our fellow do-gooders. We are a community and should stand strong next to one another.
To me, a newspaper should represent the very core of community; local happenings, sincere stories, funnies, losses, wins, the latest community news. And whether the latest news is exciting, strange, heart-breaking or hilarious, it must always be complete and factual. When a story contains all the facts, it shows the honesty and sheer determination of the reporter which, I believe, should be to find the best story through hard work, diligence and facts.
RaeLynn Ricarte’s recent articles regarding the MCMC trial have been anything but good reads. They are completely biased and factual information has been taken out of context. This poor reporting style was grossly obvious in every one of her articles and, in my opinion, created a negative image of the Chronicle. The whole story was not told, only bits and pieces in which your reporter hand-plucked.
Why does this reporter feel that she has the right to manipulate and massacre a story? It is also a slap to our community’s face by taking away our right to hear all of the fact and form our own opinions. Shame on her for taking it upon herself to twist the story. I don’t want to read bias and ignorance. I want to read facts. I want a solid story in which I feel empowered to form my own opinion.
Please consider your community before publishing its stories. Please remember what community stands for and that these stories aren’t yours to manipulate. They belong to the community and deserve your respect and truthfulness when delivering them.
