WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High (CHS) Bruins, 0-1, faced a tough opponent in their WIAA Class 1A football season opener at home on Sept. 5. The Bruins, guided by Coach Shawn Friese, lost 54-14 to the Hoquiam High Grizzlies (1-0) at Columbia High School in White Salmon.

“I think Hoquiam is going to be pretty good this year, and they’re a real physical team,” said Friese. “I was happy with the way our guys played, and I felt really proud of them. We’re dealing with a few minor injuries and some things like that. It was nice that the kids all stepped up and [some got] their first experience of playing in a varsity game.”
