WHITE SALMON — The White Salmon Valley School District (WSVSD) Board of Directors unanimously passed the 2026-2027 budget after a public hearing held July 23.
Superintendent Rich Polkinghorn walked the board through a slideshow that highlighted enrollment trends and class sizes, general fund revenues, and the projected ending fund balance, among other factors that make up a yearly budget.
The bottom line: No dramatic changes, as Director Laurie Stanton put it. The hearing closed without public comment, and later passed as one of three action items.
The board also unanimously approved Polkinghorn’s superintendent evaluation — the board thanked him for his leadership, and he responded by saying he has a good team working with him — and raising meal prices by 10 cents, the minimum annual increase required by the state.
Polkinghorn also said the first series of school bonds — $55 million — had sold July 21 and will officially close Aug. 1, when proceeds will be deposited into the district’s Capital Projects Fund and invested through the State of Washington until they’re needed for construction. More information about the sale will be included in an upcoming edition.
