On July 18, two motorcycles crashed, and both drivers were injured on I-84 in Sherman County. The group of 20 motorcycles was already slowing when a Honda ahead of them locked its brakes. As one motorcycle tried to slow, another hit it. Both riders were thrown from their vehicles and required medical treatment. The Honda earned a citation.
On July 16, a driver on I-84 was arrested on six counts of recklessly endangering others, four counts of failing to perform their duty as a driver in collision with property damage, resisting arrest, reckless driving and DUII after admitting to ramming three other cars on the freeway. Two occupants of the victim cars were 4 and 5 years old.Â
July 15, on Cascade Avenue in Hood River, two people were arrested on charges including felon in possession of firearm, unlawful possession of restricted weapon, unlawful possession of concealed firearm, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of ammunition by a felon.
Also on July 15, a Hood River local was arrested for menacing after pulling a pair of scissors on a roommate. July 14, two drivers on John Day Dam Road were detained for CRITFC after it proved they were wanted for assault and menacing with firearms.
July 12-18, Hood River police reported five thefts, including one audacious person who pushed a shopping cart full of products out of a store without paying.
Four anglers were contacted at Badger Lake on July 17. Three got citations for fishing without a license and 12 trout were seized and given to a raptor center in The Dalles, where the resident bald eagles will enjoy them. Separately, on July 17 a driver on Fivemile Road reported seeing a bull elk cross the road, jump a fence, and fail to clear it, causing fatal injuries. The elk was salvaged for local food banks.
