TROUT LAKE — The United States Department of State will recognize Trout Lake School District with the Virtual English Language Educator Partnership Award at the annual U.S. Department of State Awards Ceremony March 22 during the 2024 TESOL International Convention in Tampa, Fla.
The award recognizes Trout Lake School District’s outstanding contribution to the program’s success with appreciation for strengthening the relationship between the United States and Mexico through the Virtual English Language Educator Program, said a press release.
Trout Lake School Principal Matt Ihle will receive the award on behalf of the school district.
The school will host two college-aged students on “exchange” from their university for two weeks in April.
“Trout Lake School is excited to share the great experiences of our rural school with early career teachers from Central Mexico who are learning to teach at the same time they are learning English,” Ihle said. “We have so much to share with them while they share their culture and language with us.”
“By advancing English language education, the TESOL community creates opportunities around the world,” said says Susan T. Bell, director of the Office of English Language Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the U.S. Department of State. “Through English language exchanges and programs such as the Virtual English Language Educator Program, U.S. educators engage global audiences, build critical thinking and 21st century skills, enrich the global knowledge network, share U.S. culture and values, celebrate cultural diversity, and bring a deeper understanding of global issues and international perspectives back to U.S. classrooms and communities.”
The Virtual English Language Educator Program, launched in 2022, is a U.S. Department of State public diplomacy initiative that fosters intercultural exchange. Through projects developed by U.S. Embassies in more than 80 countries, Virtual Educators work directly with local teachers, students, and educational professionals to improve the quality of English language instruction offered at prestigious universities and other academic institutions, said the press release.
