BINGEN — Topics at the Oct. 20 Bingen City Council meeting included the renewal and adoption of the city’s solid waste plan, which must be done every five years. Solid waste refers to the handling of resident’s garbage and recycling.
Councilor Ryan O’Connor is the city’s representative on the county-wide committee and reported to the council on the updated 300 page plan, describing it as “a pretty good read.”
One detail includes the path the city’s solid waste follows. Those using Republic Services see their refuse going to a landfill in Roosevelt, Washington, an expansive site with 100 years of service life in its future. If Hood River provides garbage service, the refuse goes to the landfill in Wasco County. Most of Bingen’s recycling goes to a sorting plant in Seattle to be sorted, bundled, and sold, depending on demand for the material.
The council adopted the plan unanimously.
