THE DALLES — The Dalles Beautification and Tree Committee has announced the June 2024 Beautification Award was given to the property located at 200 W. Scenic Drive.
The property is “recognized for its stunning transformation and exemplary garden design,” said a press release.
The garden concept and landscape were created by Ajay Rundell, his wife Jesi, and Jesi’s mother, Nancy. The property showcases a vibrant and sustainable garden space, featuring a variety of perennials, large rhododendrons, fruit trees, and community garden beds. All of the Day Lilies in the garden were “rehomed” from a garden rehabilitation project at Chenowith Elementary School, emphasizing the project’s commitment to sustainability.
“Originally the front of the house was overrun with ivy, Texas Quince, and lilac, obscuring its potential beauty,” said Ajay Rundell. “Real change began in 2020, when these old plants were cleared out, making way for a fresh start. Nancy has been a key figure in this transformation, diligently maintaining the rose bushes and securing the garden’s continued appeal.”
This award highlights the efforts of the Rundell family in fostering a sense of community and pride through their beautiful and thoughtfully designed garden.
