Oh buoy — A possible person on a kayak in distress was called in July 21, Discovery Drive at about 2:19 p.m. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office arrived and determined it was just two buoys floating on the river. Another marine call came from the Columbia River on July 23 at 2:14 p.m.; no crimes reported.
Burglars — A burglary reported at a Hood River residence July 13. In The Dalles, a burglary log made on W. Ninth, June 19. Another on Pleasant Court, July 21. In Wasco County, a burglary logged on Ross Road, July 24.
Charges — July 13-19, Hood River police arrested people for domestic assault (1 person), disorderly conduct (1), DUII (1), harassment (2), trespass (2), and warrant (1). Oregon State Police (OSP) got people for DUII (4), driving suspended (2), fail to report as sex offender (1), order violation (1), and reckless driving (2). Other agencies don’t log arrests, though The Dalles recorded nine warrant-related incidents.
Four thefts in Hood River — last week: theft from Walmart, bicycle from The Spit, report of stolen check fraudulently changed and cashed from Wy’East Fire Department, and e-bike in Hood River. Hood River officer Ben Oka is seeking information on suspects in a set of thefts, who distracted victims while shopping, nabbed wallets from their purses and used the stolen cards to purchase items soon after. Mental hold — One person was placed on a mental health peace officer hold last week, meaning they were deemed a danger to themself and others and can receive transport to a hospital. The location was a Hood River school. The Dalles recorded four mental health calls that week.
Crashes — The Dalles made nine vehicle crash logs on Richmond, Mt. Hood, W. Sixth, not listed, W. Second, E. 10th, Washington, and Cherry Heights last week. Three other crashes in Wasco County, on Chenowith and Smock roads.
Sherman smashup — A fast driver on 97 in Sherman County swerved to avoid a deer, left a couple hundred feet of skid marks, left the road and rolled, receiving three citations. No injuries sustained by the driver; OSP didn’t log what happened to the deer.
Stats — The Dalles made assault logs, two domestic violence logs, a sex crimes log, five suicide logs last week. Wasco County added two sex crimes logs, a domestic violence log, a suicide log, an assault.
Thefts in Wasco — The Dalles police recorded seven, on Lincoln, W. Sixth, Kelly Avenue, Pomona St (two), W. Third, Heritage Loop; including one report of identity theft. County deputies logged a theft at Rowena, and two calls of a prowler at Sandy Beach which resulted in theft.
DUII — Five logged in The Dalles last week. OSP also arrested three. In one, OSP got a driver after multiple complaints of recklessness on I-84, milepost 54 westbound, with a blood alcohol level of 0.27%.
Subwoofer snatch — An abandoned vehicle on 197 had windows broken and subwoofers worth $4,000 according to the owner stolen, OSP reported.
Critters — The Dalles logged 22 dogs, 6 possibly not-dogs last week. Four more dogs got involved with animal control in Wasco; they found one thin fellow wandering Little Badger Campground with a mouthful of porcupine quills.
Hit-and-runs — OSP reported a hit-and-run crash on I-84, near milepost 88 westbound, July 18. The suspect fled at high speed. Five more in The Dalles: River Road, Clark Street, E. Second, E. 11th, near Google. One in Hood River, at Safeway.
Missing — a person, reportedly, from Chenowith Rim Apartments last week.
Death — on E. Tenth Street, The Dalles, July 20.
Pursuit — County deputies chased somebody on E. Sunrise Street, July 22.
Order violation — OSP nabbed a driver for violating an active protection order against a passenger of their vehicle.
