CASCADE LOCKS — City council’s June 22 meeting opened with a presentation by Parametrix, a consulting company hired to help shape Cascade Locks’ Transportation System Plan.
The 20-year plan will cover infrastructure needs, transportation programs, city policy, and address state and federal standards. A priority list was suggested in which the city’s focus is on pinch points, and high auto and pedestrian traffic patterns.
Parametrix will begin seeking public feedback, via open houses, public surveys, and targeted outreach, this summer. They will work closely with the council as well as the planning commission. The overarching goal is to create a balanced, connected, safe transportation plan for Cascade Locks.
The council and Mayor Brenda Wood provided guidance and concerns as the plan was discussed. Parking led the list of concerns, along with traffic congestion — usually caused by local events, but also being negatively affected by the construction work on nearby I-84. Wood reminded folks that the cameras operating in town are already in use to gather traffic data for the Transportation System Plan. Councilor Tiffany Pruit expressed frustration at the congestion around East Wind Drive-In.
Upcoming local events include the Fourth of July celebration and Pacific Crest Trail Days, both which bring many visitors to the community.
