HOOD RIVER — Pine Grove School is being restored after the December atmospheric river event caused significant flooding on the building’s lower level, where Blossoms Preschool is located. Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the month.
The preschool has been temporarily relocated to the school’s gym.
Superintendent Bill Newton told the Hood River County School District (HRCSD) board that water damaged floors, baseboards, and preschool materials.
“Over the [winter] break, Chief Financial Officer Mark DeMoss worked to contract with Adams Restoration to dry the area and remove impacted materials, including carpet and lower portions of sheetrock,” Newton said. “Chinook Plumbing also implemented a temporary drainage solution to redirect water away from the building.”
Newton said that the current restoration phase includes replacing drywall and flooring, and removing damaged materials and equipment.
“Mark and I have been working closely with Socci Galvez, the Blossoms owner, and Anne Cole, our early intervention and early childhood special education coordinator, to support this transition,” he said, noting Galvez’s flexibility and Cole’s advocacy and support. He also thanked DeMoss for his effort in lining up contractors over the break.
Newton also said that the district’s long-range facilities planning committee will evaluate permanent drainage solutions and other capital needs, including a potential roof replacement.
