Here are last week’s ten-pin bowling league highlights at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes:
Monday Night Industrial league, current standings for round 2 with one week to go:
1. Clear Cutters, 118.5 points
2. The Crew, 118 points
3. The Rollers, 109.5 points
4. Mt. Hood BBQ, 106 points
5. Decavo, 105.5 points
6. Hood River Supply, 104.5 points
Last week’s matches in the Industrial league really complicated things. As you can see, the top six teams in the standings are still in it to win it. With 25 points available to a team that sweeps their opponent in a three-game match, all six of these teams can win, with a little help from their friends of course.
Court Barker, former junior league star at Orchard Lanes, returned to the lanes this season for Clear Cutters and he has been bringing his eager and passionate game to the forefront just like the old days. It was no different in Clear Cutters’ big match last week against Mt. Hood BBQ who were leading the league at the time. Court pounded the pocket all night long with his pin-punching power, racking up strike-filled 235, 233 and 202 games for a critical, big-time 670 series. As a famous New York Yankee said about a player who makes the difference, Court was the stick that stirred the drink in Clear Cutters’ big 18-7 win last week.
Other match results from last week: The Crew beat Triple T’s, 18-7; Pat’s Pro Shop beat Decavo, 18-7; Randy’s Painting beat MTS, 18-7; The Rollers beat Hood River Supply, 17-8; and OL’7-10 lost to Orchard Lanes, 14-11.
High Scores: Joey Sheirbon for Pat’s Pro Shop, 278 game and 675 series; Court Barker for Clear Cutters, 235 game and 670 series; and Nancy Asai for Orchard Lanes, 228 game.
Bowler of the Week: Joey Sheirbon, 111 pins over average.
Since the standings in the second round are so close, the final matches this week will be critical. Here is the line-up: The biggie pits first-place Clear Cutters against second-place The Crew. This will be a David vs. Goliath contest. Clear Cutters have plenty of firepower, so they only have 104 pins of handicap per game whereas The Crew has a whopping 242 pins of handicap per game! So, the hot-shot Cutters will have to beat the lowly Crew by at least 140 pins per game in order to win this match. That’s a mighty tall mountain to climb!
In the remaining important matches this week, Hood River Supply (163 pins handicap) faces the always tough MTS threesome (116 pins handicap). That 47-pin difference may not be enough for Supply. In an essentially even match, The Rollers (183 pins handicap) bowl Triple T’s (174 pins handicap); Decavo (267 pins handicap) goes against the first-round winner, Randy’s Painting (100 pins handicap, so Decavo has their work cut out in this one); and Mt. Hood BBQ (191 pins handicap) will test the formidable Orchard Lanes trio (115 pins handicap, so the BBQ-ers better get smoking hot in this clash)!
