THE GORGE — While the holidays are “the most wonderful time of year,” for some they don’t carry that same spark, and they can be difficult for many who have experienced significant loss. “Aware that the person who died will not be with them, the holiday season can intensify feelings of sadness, isolation, anxiety, and loss for those who grieve,” said a press release by Providence.
Providence Hospice Bereavement Program is offering a seminar, “Get me through the Holidays: Coping with loss on days that hold special meaning” as a free presentation to anyone in the community. “This seminar helps people who are grieving a loss through death to discover practical and meaningful ways to cope during the holidays,” the release continued. The coping strategies offered can be helpful on other occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, and there will be tips for those who can to support a grieving person.
In-person seminars will be offered Nov 19 from 1:30–3 p.m. at the Pioneer Center in White Salmon, Dec. 15 from 10–11:30 a.m. at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center in The Dalles, and virtually Nov. 13 from 10–11:30 a.m., Dec 2 from 6–7:30 p.m., and Dec 15 from 1–2:30 p.m. To attend the seminar virtually you must register for the zoom link.
