KDLS Aircraft Storage, LLC, has requested permission to build a 60-by-120-foot aircraft hangar on one of the Columbia Gorge Regional Airport lots near the new taxiway.
Columbia Gorge News / file photoGOLDENDALE — The first of two new aircraft hangars, each with room to store 10 airplanes, is drawing lots of interest, as Columbia Gorge Regional Airport Manager Jeff Reynard reported at the Sept. 1 county commissioner’s meeting.
“The good news in our T-hanger project is we have six leases signed,” he said, “and tenants actively texting me all morning, wanting to know what time they can get in. The project is moving along very, very nicely.”
A T-hanger narrows at the back for the plane’s tail and widens at the front to match the span of the wings, forming a “T.” Planes are backed into the space. Building a unit so half of the hangars open onto one side of the building and half on the other creates an interlocking pattern that allows more planes in a smaller footprint.
This is the first of two T-hangars planned for the airport.
