THE DALLES — Last month, Four Rivers Family Early Learning & Parenting Hub filled and delivered more than 75 backpacks with school supplies for local children graduating from Preschool Promise sites. Preschool Promise sites are located throughout Four Rivers Family five county regions of Gilliam, Hood River, Sherman, Wasco and Wheeler counties.
Backpacks were filled with school supplies provided by Four Rivers Family and prepared at Columbia Gorge Education Service District (CGESD) in The Dalles. Individual Preschool Promise locations handed out the new backpacks to their preschool graduates.
Four Rivers Family works with local early learning systems to ease the transition from preschool to kindergarten, said a press release.
“By supporting our earliest learners and their families, we believe we can help families thrive,” said the press release. “By preparing backpacks so each child is equipped for their first day of school, while also easing the financial burden for families, Four Rivers Family is working to make a difference.”
Investments in early childhood development lay the foundation for school readiness by building cognitive and social skills that children need to do well in school and in life, said the press release. Preschool can help your child prepare for kindergarten.
“We are so proud of the 77 children that graduated preschool in the region. Parents, families and providers are working hard, and we want to celebrate our littlest learners. We appreciate the endless hours that preschool teachers and parents are devoting to their students’ success,” says Four Rivers Family Director Shira Skybinskyy.
