Lowell (Bob) Roy passed away March 13, 2026, with his longtime friend Cheri by his side.
Bob grew up in The Dalles, Oregon, and went to Wahtonka High School. Bob was involved in the sport of rodeo all his life. His grandfather on his mother’s side was involved in rodeo as a trick rider and saddle bronc rider competing in Pendleton in 1926. Bob competed in high school rodeo as a bull dogger and calf roper. Bob continued his rodeo career in competition and later became a rodeo judge in Oregon, Washington, and New Zealand. He was also a rodeo clown, bull fighter and director for the NPRA.
Bob was a master leather craftsman; he built saddles and gear for ranchers and rodeo contestants, and some of his saddles were sent to Canada, Germany, France, Korea, New Zealand and Australia. Bob started building saddles for Miss Rodeo Oregon in 1999. He was also a director for Miss Rodeo Oregon and was inducted into the Miss Rodeo Oregon Hall of Fame in 2021. Bob also worked at Zim’s for 15 years as a bartender and nightly closer.
Bob spent many winters in New Zealand, his second home with his dear friends Kim and Mandy. Bob’s wish is to have his ashes spread in New Zealand.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Neitling Roy, his brother Joe Roy, and nephew Scott Roy. Bob is survived by his sisters Cathy Roy Davis and Rita Roy Borgos; brother Dee Roy; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been set up with Miss Rodeo Oregon in Bob’s name: PO Box 1964, Silverton, OR 97381, or you can make a donation on their website Missrodeooregon.com.
