WHITE SALMON — Columbia High School’s (CHS’s) softball team started the 2026 spring season with nearly no break last week, as CHS played five games in five days, with four out of five on the road.
The Bruins (3-3, 2-2 Trico), led by head Coach Jesse Bryan, won 5-2 at home against Kalama High School on March 17, lost 15-5 on the road against Toutle Lake High School on March 18, lost on the road against Kalama 9-8 on March 19, and finished the week with a 14-4 loss to Desales High School and a 19-7 win against Sunnyside Christian High School on March 21 in Yakima.
Junior Danica Herman led the Bruins with three hits in three at-bats, as the Bruins beat the Kalama Chinooks (2-4, 1-1 Trico) 5-2 on Tuesday. Herman crushed a solo home run to left-center field in the second inning and singled in the third and fifth innings.
Freshman Gabby Hogue led the Bruins in pitching. The starter surrendered seven hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out two with no walks. Senior Halle Kock and junior Lola Marti each appeared in relief for the Bruins.
The Bruins fell 15-5 to the Ducks (2-0) in a non-league game at Toutle Lake High School. In the loss, the Bruins outhit the Ducks 14-13, as Herman led the Bruins again with three hits. Junior Joella Posini knocked in two runs. Junior Fiona Grabb and junior Julia Mullinix each collected multiple hits for the Bruins.
Columbia lost to Kalama 9-8 on March 19, the second meeting between the teams in three days.
The Bruins finished the week off with two non-league tournament games on March 21 in Yakima. First, CHS lost to the DeSales Fighting Irish (6-1), 14-4, then beat the Sunnyside Christian Knights (2-1), 19-7.
The Bruins came into the week after an 11-10 win against Mountain View (1-3) of Vancouver on March 13.
