HOOD RIVER — Columbia Center for the Arts’ (CCA) new fundraising event, “The Big Sing!” will take place on May 29 at 6 p.m. Led by the Low Bar Chorale, hundreds of voices will fill the theatre as one.
The Big Sing is CCA’s first annual benefit event, produced in partnership with Low Bar Chorale. The event raises funds to sustain CCA’s year-round programming, including free gallery exhibitions, community and youth theatre, arts education, and rural school field trips. CCA’s fundraising goals for the event is $40,000.
Low Bar Chorale transforms audiences into epic choruses — no auditions, no rehearsals, no prior experience required. Their shows combine music, comedy, and rock and roll magic to bring rooms of strangers together in three-part harmony. They have performed alongside Built to Spill, Guster, and Portugal. The Man, and toured throughout the Pacific Northwest, Australia, and Alaska.
“When people create together, something real happens. They feel more connected, more at home in themselves and each other, more like they belong to something. That’s what CCA is here to do, and this event is how we both demonstrate and sustain it,” said Executive Director Tim Harkins.
“We want this auction to feel like a love letter to the Gorge and the arts,” said Board Chair Ella Wolter. “If you have something worth celebrating, we want it in that room.”
