HOOD RIVER — Join the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM) for a special presentation by author Martin Middlewood on Feb. 14 at 2 pm. Middlewood’s talk will focus on the history of Pearson Field and the early days of Pacific Northwest aviation.
Pearson Field celebrated its 100-year U.S. Army dedication anniversary in 2025. Middlewood’s book, “The Hidden History of Pearson Field,” is packed full of interesting aviation history stories that cover everything from early dirigibles to the rise of airmail, and even the beginning of United Airlines.
WAAAM has many of the same types of airplanes featured in the history Middlewood will present during his talk, so visitors can get a better idea of what things really looked like in yesteryear. Additionally, the Aircraft Restoration Shop will offer guided tours at 11 am and 1 pm, and vintage automobile rides will be available from 10 am to 2 pm.
Middlewood writes a weekly history column for The Columbian called “Images from the Attic.” He earned a master’s degree in technical and professional writing from Eastern Washington University and completed graduate work in American History.
Open 9-5 daily, the WAAAM collects, restores, preserves and exhibits airplanes from the Dawn of Flight through the Golden Age of Flight, and historically significant cars and trucks emphasizing the first half of the 20th century.
