The Boys, as a series, may be over, but the world itself will continue to be a part of the TV landscape as Eric Kripke and crew expand the universe with the forthcoming series Vought Rising. But is this the last we’ll see of these characters in the present-day timeline?
As fans know by now, Gen V, the college-set spinoff series, was canceled after two seasons, but several of the characters appeared in The Boys‘ finale. Is there room for them in another show down the line? We asked Kripke following The Boys series finale as he looks ahead to the franchise’s future.
“I think that there’s a really interesting map out there now in this post-Homelander world because you have Vought disavowing a lot of their superheroes and throwing them out into the street, and so suddenly you have all of these superpowered beings, almost like loose nukes, right?” Kripke points out.

“They don’t have Vought’s PR department or protection, they don’t have Vought’s insurance when they trash a building, they don’t have Vought’s medical insurance, and so they’re all thrown out into the street, and I think that’s a super interesting milieu to play in,” he adds.
Whether a concept like that would involve surviving members of The Boys or Gen V would remain to be seen, but it’s a concept that would keep action in the ongoing timeline, versus the past, which is where Vought Rising will be set. As viewers know, the prequel will revolve around Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), who is technically still alive, albeit asleep in a tube, where Homelander left him.
“Some of our senior writers, both from The Boys and Gen V and Vought Rising, they’re pitching ideas, and there are a couple of good ones, but as long as each idea is totally distinct and different from The Boys, and as long as it’s their passion project, [I’d be willing to explore it],” Kripke offers.
“My feeling is that The Boys was my passion project. If we’re gonna do shows in this world, I’m not interested in pieces of commerce; I’m interested in giving an executive producer their first shot at running a show with an idea that they’re truly passionate about, like Paul Grellong is with Vought Rising. I mean that era and that story is his passion project, and that’s what I want them all to be.”
