The Hattenhauer Distributing Columbia Gorge Hustlers baseball team extended its win streak to 20 games following a sweep of a home doubleheader over Silverton 14-2 and 10-4 on July 16. It marked the final home games of the summer league season for the Hustlers (18-0 league, 34-2 overall), who qualified for the American Legion Single A State Tournament July 20-24 at North Marion High School in Aurora. The winner of the state tournament advances to regionals Aug. 5-9 in Vernal, Utah.

HOOD RIVER — Water sports fanatics from across the country flocked to the Hood River event site on July 8-11 for North America’s largest amateur kiteboarding race, Kiteboard4Cancer. In it’s 16th year, the event brought in nearly $250,000 in donations, sponsorships and fundraising. All proceeds will go to Project Koru and fund adventure camps for their young adult cancer survivors. Chair on the board of directors Steve Fisher said he was skeptical at first when participation was low just a week and a half before the event.

Mitch Thompson and Bilinqual Baquetbol will be hosting a one-day clinic at Mid Valley Elementary School on July 22. Bilingual Basquetbol seeks to serve rural immigrant communities throughout the Pacific Northwest through basketball. The camp will be in Spanish and English. The camp is free to join, but interested participants must register online.
