Hood River Valley opens league play in boys basketball this week after having its rivalry game vs. The Dalles canceled because of last week’s snowstorm which blanketed the Gorge.
The defending boys basketball Big Sky League champion South Wasco County High Redsides improved to 5-0 after winning two non-league home games in last weekend’s John Howey Memorial Tournament in Maupin.
The Sherman County High Huskies notched their second win of the season, with a 43-29 victory over the Dayville/Monument High Tigers (1-4) Dec. 9 at the Condon Tournament.
The Dalles High Riverhawks Class 4A boys and girls wrestling teams competed in their second tournament Dec. 10 at Lincoln High School in Portland and left with two championships.
The Columbia High Bruins girls basketball team had three games canceled recently because of winter weather conditions in the Gorge but they resumed their WIAA Class 1A non-league schedule this week.
After winning their first game in four years in a 53-31 game against the Corbett Cardinals Dec. 1, the Columbia High Bruins had hoped to get another victory in their last game Dec. 7 at home against the Elma Eagles (3-1).
Hood River Valley’s girls basketball team begins its initial season in the Northwest Oregon Conference on Wednesday, when the Eagles will face another league newcomer.
