I love seeing how this community comes together selflessly to help, support, and encourage one another. Especially now with so much divisiveness in the world, we definitely need activities, events, and causes to bring us together and find common ground. When we connect and engage in a positive way, amazing things happen.
Lila May’s Tutu Trot and the outpouring of support from the community, GO! Gorge Owned, which encourages a strong local economy by creating events to educate and deepen our understanding and connection to this gorgeous area in which we live, Kiteboarding for Cancer, and the latest on my radar, We Love You to China and Back benefit dinner.
July 31, The Wedding Meadow at Mt. View Orchards, Parkdale; tickets are $40 at paypal.me/vandeheysix
Julie and Zach VanDeHey have on their hearts to adopt a special needs child from China and add to their family of five. They’ve dubbed themselves the Vandeheysix. The support from local businesses to help this family with their mission is inspiring! In support of the family, a dinner benefit will be held July 31.
“We’re honored to live in a community of people with big hearts willing to take a risk with us; we’re grateful to people who don’t even know us and are willing to help bring a child that’s coming from a space of loss to a place of hope and redemption, to a community that loves them before they even know them,” said Julie VanDeHey.
For a local small or family owned business, this is a significant commitment, starting with the space donated by the McAlexander family, who created the venue this summer.
The outpouring of generosity simply reflects the spirit of this community and its willingness to help and support others, to be a part of something bigger, to help, to donate their gifts to support the heart’s desire of another.
Mt. View Orchards is donating their new event space and fruit for the dinner, and Ahi’s Ohana Catering’s Mark Whitehead and staff are donating both time and the menu. These local businesses have donated food: Rosauers, Grocery Outlet, Farm Stand, Saur Farming. Viento’s Robin and Rich Cushman are donating wine, Apple Green’s owner Dani Correa is using her design talents donating Table Décor, Twiggs, Silverado, Malika, Joleen Wampler Massage, Five Element Acupuncture, Chem Dry Carpet Cleaners, Dog River, 10 speed, Doppio, Ms. O’s Espresso, and many, many other local businesses and individuals have also made contributions or donations.
The table is set, the auction items are donated. Will you be a part of this community event? Tickets are $40 per person for a three course, catered farm-to-table meal with live music, wine, hard cider, craft beer, and locally donated auction items.
Final numbers are due to the caterer by July 24. If you’d like to participate and be a part of something great, please nab yourself a couple tickets!
