Seven presenters have been announced for the first ever Gorge Soup for the Arts, coming to Columbia Center for the Arts on the evening of Sept. 20.
In its five years providing granting opportunities to local projects and businesses, Gorge Soup has been a meal-driven support for start-ups and entrepreneurs, in adult and youth events, but this year organizers decided to focus on art innovators.
With Gorge Soup, diners enjoy a simple meal and hear pitches from the presenters on their projects. Then, diners put down spoons and pick up pens to vote for which presenter they would like to receive the pool of money from Gorge Soup tickets. Diners will also have the chance to ask questions.
Presenters are:
• Bonnie Bright, for The Human Nature Movement Project, a series of classes that use social dancing and horticulture as therapeutic modalities, in combination, to explore and improve upon kinesthetic wellness and intergenerational interactions.
• Ann Fleming, White Salmon Arts Council, for a Public Art installation at the intersection of Estes and Jewett in downtown White Salmon.
• Leigh Hancock, for Stories of Home and Homelessness, a six-month project that explores the issue of homelessness in our community by telling, hearing, and appreciating the stories of those among us who have experienced homelessness.
• Melody Johnson, Goldendale Performing Arts Center, for needed securities legal services for development of a private offering of shares to fund construction of a 74,550 square foot performing arts center.
• Peter Marbach, for “The Columbia: From Source to Sea,” a travelling fine art exhibit and lecture series along the main stem of the Columbia River from Astoria to Canada that introduces the public to rarely seen sections of the river and especially the last remaining wild and free section.
• Miko Ruhlen of EnviroGorge, for Unsung Environmental Heroes of the Columbia River Gorge, a new video media art series documenting the work of local “unsung” environmental heroes.
• MacRae Wylde, for Light Reflections, a light installation illuminating the walking path under Interstate 84 that links downtown Hood River to the waterfront.
