THE DALLES — Zion Lutheran Church in The Dalles will present its fourth annual 8-Hour Organ Hymn Marathon beginning at noon on Sunday, Oct. 29 (Reformation Sunday).
Organist Garry Estep will sit down in front of the console of the Phelps-d’Autremont organ and play hymn requests until 8 p.m. Estep plays the hymn while hosts sing through a couple of verses, and then he does various improvisations on the hymn tune.
This event is free and open to the public to come and go as they see fit. Donations will be accepted at the door, but are not required.
If you would like to submit a hymn request ahead of time, send an email to zion.office.manager@gmail.com with “Hymn Marathon” in the subject line. Specify your favorite hymn and what time you might want to enjoy it, and we will do our best to accommodate you. You may also request hymns during the marathon. (We also do not mind presenting the same hymn more than once; however, we do get a great number of hymn requests — more than Mr. Estep is able to play in eight hours.)
You may also tune into our live stream (Zion in The Dalles YouTube) if you so desire. We have people from all over the United States and worldwide listening online.
