THE DALLES — A free community garden party will celebrate the opening of The Dalles Art Center (TDAC)’s latest exhibition on May 31.
The show features photographer Cate Hotchkiss and painter Jessalyn Haggenjos. “The exhibition brings together two compelling perspectives on the natural world, exploring themes of landscape, botany, and expressive color through photography and paint,” read a press release.
The party goes 3-5 p.m. at 220 E. fourth St., The Dalles. Suggested donation: $5 or a new/gently used book.
“Guests are invited to wander TDAC’s blooming garden, where artful surprises await — including Tiny Libraries crafted by students from Columbia Gorge Community College’s Welding and Manufacturing Program. These whimsical pieces will be available for “adoption” via silent auction, with proceeds supporting the program,” read the press release.
“Enjoy garden-themed cocktails and small bites, dress in your best garden party attire, and compete for the Best Hat Prize.
“Though working in different mediums, both artists are united by a shared fascination with the lush abundance of nature. Hotchkiss captures the fleeting brilliance of the outdoors with dreamlike, light-soaked images that celebrate seasonal change and evoke a painterly eye. In contrast, Haggenjos approaches the landscape with a bold, abstract sensibility — layering candy-colored fields and sharp-edged forms inspired by the Cascade Range. Together, their work forms a dynamic conversation between spontaneity and structure, wildness and intention.”
