THE GORGE — GORGEous Music Events, a new local organization, is offering two Christmas concerts this January under the direction of Dr. David Kelly, pianist. Many of us have forgotten that the holiday season begins on Christmas Day and originally ended on Jan. 6, the 12th Day of Christmas called Epiphany when the Three Wise Men arrived in Bethlehem. It is these 12 days that are celebrated in that holiday song that is so hard to memorize. David has been doing Christmas concerts in early January for many years in celebration of Epiphany! Come hear your favorite holiday music before the 12th day of Christmas, and have a Happy New Year!
David retired in White Salmon and is currently directing the Mid Columbia Community Choir as well as playing piano at four churches in Hood River, White Salmon and Stevenson. Passionate about giving other musicians opportunities to perform, GORGEous Music Events is performing two concerts. Join us on January 4, 7 p.m. at Hood River Valley Christian Church and January 5, 3 p.m. in White Salmon at United Methodist Church.
Please mark your calendars for these concerts on both sides of the Columbia River for great classical and contemporary Christmas music from talented local singers and instrumentalists. This is not a worship concert but a mix of both secular and traditional Christmas music.
Featured will be Gorge singer Stephenie Gross performing the famous Christmas song “Breath of Heaven,” recorded by Amy Grant. Barbara Oldfield will sing with her husband Chuck Oldfield, a 12-string guitarist. Jeff Weener, Portland tenor and former voice student of David Kelly, will sing selections from Handel’s Messiah and the favorite Christmas tune made famous by Bing Crosby, “O Holy Night.” Pianists Stephanie Black and David Kelly will offer “Carol of the Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” “What Child Is This?” and “Mary, Did You Know?” Violinist Susan Wade will place bow on strings for the traditional Carol “We Three Kings.”
