SANDY — With recent cool temperatures and precipitation forecast for later this week, fire managers on the Mt. Hood National Forest have rescinded public use fire restrictions, effective Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Three large wildfires burned on Mt. Hood National Forest this summer and fall. Two of the fires were caused by human activity. Even with lower fire risk, it’s critical that visitors do their part to prevent wildfire.
“We are still in fire season and could see warming, drying, and windy days that raise the risk of fires getting big or difficult to control,” said Dirk Shupe, Fire Staff Officer for Mt. Hood National Forest. “We ask visitors to practice fire safety. Always make sure campfires are completely out and cold to the touch before leaving.”
Industrial Fire Precaution Levels have also been downgraded to Level 1 across the Forest. This allows firewood cutting and other activities requiring chainsaws and equipment to take place throughout the day.
