Submitted photoHOOD RIVER — Hood River Bridge weekday single-lane closures are expected to continue through May 15, as welders conduct annual deck repairs. Work began May 4, with Monday to Friday closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A separate, full closure was scheduled Saturday, May 9, from 8-9 a.m. for a ship passage. The closure period is approximate.
According to the port, annual welding takes place during daytime hours because ambient light is essential to find cracks and ensure accurate welds. Drivers are asked to travel slowly, respect the workers’ space and not look directly at the welding arcs.
