Field Day is North America's largest amateur radio emergency communications exercise. Temporary radio stations powered by generators, batteries, and other independent power sources will operate throughout the day, demonstrating how communication can continue when normal systems fail.
Children and families will have the opportunity to climb aboard a fire truck, learn about firefighting equipment, and try their hand at water-target activities provided by local firefighters and volunteers from 1-3 p.m. Amateur radio operators will help visitors learn about radio and make live radio contacts with other radio operators throughout Oregon and across the United States.
West Side Fire District will also provide information about volunteer opportunities and emergency preparedness.
The event is designed for everyone — not just radio enthusiasts. Families, children, students, newcomers, technology enthusiasts, preparedness-minded residents, and anyone interested in learning more about community resilience are encouraged to attend.
