THE DALLES — A transformer caught fire, evacuating several businesses and causing a power outage on July 25, in the alley between Second and Third streets near Federal, at around 7 p.m.

The Dalles Police evacuated nearby businesses for over an hour. No buildings where damaged, but at River City Saloon, crossed wires took out two coolers, a lot of sound equipment, and the solenoid (which controls a gas valve to the cooking equipment), said owner Joe Kirkwood.
