THE DALLES — A transformer caught fire, evacuating several businesses and causing a power outage on July 25, in the alley between Second and Third streets near Federal, at around 7 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm struck the Gorge Thursday night, bringing thunder, lightning, and at least one big tree falling across the road. The storm cut power to about 2,000 customers, Northern Wasco County PUD announced.
