THE DALLES — The Dalles Art Center, in collaboration with the Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District, announces the launch of the Rock Snake, a whimsical, interactive public art installation designed to bring color, creativity, and community connection to Sorosis Park.
The project kicked off May 17th with a special rock painting event led by TDAC Board Vice President Ami Beaver. All ages joined in to paint and add their first rocks to the growing Rock Snake — and the fun is just getting started!
Throughout summer, residents and visitors are invited to paint and place their own unique rocks along its winding form in Sorosis. Reminiscent of the beloved dragon features that once captured hearts at Sorosis, the Rock Snake is “a joyful, evolving piece of public art that invites imagination and playfulness for all who encounter it.”
“We wanted to create something that people could truly be a part of,” said Ellen Potter, Executive Director of TDAC. “The Rock Snake gives everyone a chance to add their own creative touch to the park and build something together as a community.”
Visit TDAC’s Facebook and Instagram to suggest a name for the Snake. An official poll will be taken via social media the first week of June. The name of the Rock Snake will be published the following week.
How to Participate:
● Stop by Sorosis Park anytime this summer to add your painted rock to the growing snake.
● Create your rock addition at home, or bring your supplies to the Shelter at Sorosis Park and paint it on site. There are some rocks available at the park, in the shelter.
● Follow TDAC online to stay updated and cast your vote for the Rock Snake’s official name.
