THE GORGE — Friends of the Columbia Gorge, an Oregon and Washington-based conservation organization dedicated to protecting the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, is now accepting submissions for its ninth annual photo contest, “GorgeGram: Framed in Beauty.”
“Friends is delighted to once again convene both professional and recreational photographers from across the Pacific Northwest to capture the spectacular beauty, in all its forms, of one of the world’s greatest natural treasures, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area,” said a press release. “The contest also provides an opportunity for Friends to partner with the Pacific Northwest nature photography community to illustrate the need to preserve the wonders of the Gorge for future generations.”
The theme of this year’s contest, “GorgeGram: Framed in Beauty,” nods to the Gorge’s status as one of the country’s most photogenic destinations.
Friends is also introducing two new categories for the first time: Night photography and underwater photography.
This year’s photo contest judging panel will include Gorge-based photographers Paloma Ayala and Vince Ready, as well as Debbie Asakawa, a Portland photographer and founder of women’s outdoor group Trailmix.
“As someone who has spent hundreds of days hiking and photographing every corner of the Gorge in all seasons, I love to see how others have captured the infinite beauty of this very special place,” Asakawa said.
Pro Photo Supply, Portland, is sponsoring the contest.
To enter, photographers must submit photos they own to gorgefriends.org/photocontest by Sunday, March 17 at 11:59 p.m. The winning photographs will be announced in spring 2024.
Friends will honor winning photos in eight categories. Additional information on each category is available on the entry page. The grand prize winner will be chosen from all of the submissions and can come from any category.
The categories are: scenic Eastern Gorge, scenic Western Gorge, waterfalls, wildflowers and wildlife, underwater, night, youth photographer and camera phone.
