Columbia Center for the Arts and the Columbia Gorge Winegrowers Association invites the public to visit the gallery during harvest, when the bounty of wine grapes is crushed and the joie de vivre of winemaking begins. Starting Oct. 4, 11 artists from the Gorge and Portland areas will join together to celebrate the sensuality of wine. In addition to the show, eight wineries will host wine tastings at the gallery every Friday in October from 6 to 8 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be an opening reception of “The Crush” exhibition. Mingle with exhibiting artists and local winemakers and indulge in complimentary appetizers and wine tastings.
Exhibiting artists include: Sally Bills Bailey, Scott Gellatly, Eric Jacobsen, Mark Nilsson, Anton Pavlenko, Cathleen Rehfeld, Hazel Schlesinger, Nancy Tongue, Za Vue, and Karen Watson.
Wine tastings every Friday in October will be:
Friday, Oct. 4: Cathedral Ridge Winery and Hood Crest Winery;
Friday, Oct. 11: Wy’East Vineyards and White Salmon Vineyard;
Friday, Oct. 18: Aniche and Mt. Hood Winery;
Friday, Oct. 25: Viento Winery and Cascade Cliffs.
A special event, “A Conversion: Wines of the Columbia River Gorge,” will be held on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Winemakers from the region will discuss winemaking in the Gorge.
Columbia Center for the Arts and CAST Theatre in Hood River opens the 2013/2014 season with the Tragedy of Macbeth.
Macbeth is a bloody tale of desire, twisted morality, vengeance, and restitution. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where survivors have banded together against their enemies: loyalties are tested, friendships are torn apart, and super-natural elements begin to tear through the fabric of the material world in order to destroy or save it.
The show opens on October 10 at 7;30 p.m. and continues on Oct. 11,12, 17,18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.
Tickets for the Scottish play are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, $12 for groups of ten or more and are available at Columbia Center for the Arts, Waucoma Bookstore and online www.columbiaarts.org.
Hood River Library celebrating 100 years
The public is invited to the Hood River Library Centennial Celebration! Library staff is celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the library building and the literature that lives there with a “Great Gatsby” party on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.
Swing along to the Ben Bonham Jazz Trio and enjoy finger food, desserts, a no-host bar, kids’ activities and more. Prizes for the best 1920s costumes! Free and open to all ages!
