It may be summer-like weather here in Hood River, but the winter recreation season is still in full-swing up at Mt. Hood Meadows. The ski resort will be hosting numerous events over the next few weeks before its anticipated end of the season party May 14 (daily operations are scheduled to go through April 17; weekends only after). This weekend also marks the last runs for the Hood River Meadows lift.
Here are some of the events the resort will be hosting in the coming weeks:
• April 9: Mazotfest. A fun, charitable race benfitting the Mt. Hood Avalanche Dogs . The race will start above the Mazot and finish by the Mazot hut. There will also be giveaways and prizes. There is a pirate theme; day-of registration is $10.
• April 9: Ski to Defeat ALS. Participants may do one run or fifty runs; individuals with ALS are encouraged to participate. Proceeds benefit the ALS Association Oregon and SW Washington Chapter. For more information on the event, go to skitodefeatALS.org.
• April 9: Afternoon snowshoe tour. Ride the Vista Express chairlift to 6,600 feet and enjoy views of the South Cascades before descending back to the lodge. Event price of $60 includes snowshoe rentals, chairlift ride, and dinner.
• April 17: Suits and Boots. The first 100 people to show up wearing swimsuits get an all-day lift ticket for $10. Share pics on Instagram or Facebook to win prizes. Proceeds benefit Human Access Project.
• April 30: Sno-Kona Pond Skim. Skiers and snowboarders attempt to skim across 100 feet of water and are judged on distance, costume, and style and crowd response, with prizes up for grabs. All competitors must be 21 or older.
