Glenwood, Klickitat and Lyle of the Greater Columbia B League close out the 2001 portion of their schedules this weekend.
In GCB action this Friday, Glenwood hosts Sunnyside Christian, while Klickitat travels to Yakama Tribal and Lyle entertains Riverside Christian. Trout Lake is idle until January.
Both Glenwood and Lyle play non-league games on Saturday before recessing for Christmas break.
At Lyle 66, Spray, Ore. 22 --
The Cougars gave their visitors the one-two punch of Lindsey Blaine and Kristina Lucas last Saturday to win their second interstate contest of the week.
Blaine, a junior center, had 26 points (on 13 field goals) and 12 rebounds, while Lucas, a senior forward, netted 15 points and collected 18 rebounds.
"Another great game for Kristina and Lindsey," said Cougars Coach Verlyn Smith. "Whatever Lindsey missed, Kristina seemed to rebound it and put it in."
Sophomore Dawn Ullom also had a solid game for the Cougs, finishing with seven assists and eight points. Junior Sarah Billette added 10 points and nine boards.
Lyle had the game in hand by halftime. It took a 16-4 lead after one quarter and led 31-8 at the break.
At Glenwood 39, Cascade Locks, Ore. 33 --
Seniors Jenna Dean and Chelsy Wheelhouse combined for 33 of the Eagles' points in last Saturday's non-league triumph over the Pirates.
Dean scored a season-high 19 points to take game scoring honors, while Wheelhouse popped in 14.
The Eagles improved to 4-2 overall, but had to work to get the win.
Glenwood got off to a 12-4 start in the first quarter and led 20-14 at halftime. Cascade Locks wouldn't fold, however; it cut the margin to 30-26 headed into the final frame.
At Lyle 69, Arlington, Ore. 34 --
Junior Lindsey Blaine scored 17 points and senior Kristina Lucas had 11 points and 11 rebounds Dec. 12 to lead the Cougars past the Honkers in non-conference hoops action.
Lyle outscored Arlington 23-5 in the opening period of play and led 44-14 at halftime en route to its second victory in three outings.
Other games --
Bickleton lost in overtime to Arlington, Ore., 43-39, in last Saturday's championship game of Arlington's Snowball Tournament.
Annie Hess (16) and Kate Whitmore (14) powered the Pirates' tournament title run.
Meanwhile, Yakima's LaSalle remained unbeaten, trouncing Yakama Tribal of the GCB, 119-25, last Friday after upending 1A Highland on Dec. 11.
Sunnyside Christian also kept its record unblemished. The Knights plastered visiting Wahluke 66-35 in non-league action last Saturday.
