THE DALLES — Seniors Tyson Long and Derek Goulart won events for The Dalles High at the Centennial Invitational track and field meet May 2 in Gresham.
Long won the 1500-meter run in 4 minutes, 13.12 seconds and later came back to finish second in the 800 (2:00.81). Goulart won the high jump at 6 feet, finished third in the 100 meters in a season best 11.36 seconds, and was fifth in the 200 - in a personal best 23.27.
Teammate Noah Preston also ran a PR in the 200 meters of 23.92, but more impressive was the fact that it came after his 50.73 PR in the 400. Junior Tyler Irving had a two-PR day: 16.43 in 110 hurdles and 44.74 in 300 hurdles. Freshman Lazarus Taylor ran a PR 9:32.52 in the 3000. Preston and Long joined Laura Black and Josie Brace on the mixed 4x400 relay, which finished second.
Arguably, the biggest PR of the day for the Riverhawk boys was Mason Morehouse’s 11-5.25 pole vault effort — improving on his previous best of 10-0 that he had set two weeks ago.
The Dalles boys finished second in the team scoring in the 13-team meet behind 6A Glencoe High. The Riverhawks now have either the first- or second-best mark in the Tri-Valley Conference in seven of eight boys individual running events, as well as the top time in the 4x400 relay.
Black had a busy, four-event day. She ran a leg on The Dalles’ 4x100 girls relay along with Riley Stocks, Ebany Mondragon, and Gabriela Dominguez Bahena (52.46). Black also cleared a personal best 8-11.5 in the pole vault and ran a 63-second 400.
Dominguez Bahena led the Riverhawk sprint crew which produced five PRs, including her 100 best of 13.38 and 28.08 200. Stocks added PRs in the 100 and 200, and Brace PRd in the 100 and 300 hurdles (51.65). Horizonal jumper Noraya Gallegos flirted with the 16-foot mark in the long jump, settling for 15-11.25 (PR), and she also triple jumped 32-6.5.
The Dalles had two runner-up girls finishes: Rozlyn Elliott was second in the high jump at 4-11.75, and Abigail Pope was second in the 1500 in 5:20.95 and added a 2:38.19 PR in the 800.
