Ridgefield scored 18 points on layins on its way to a 60-36 Trico Division victory over Columbia High here Jan. 4.
Bruins Coach Mike Yarnell said Columbia got good shots out of its offensive sets and played good half-court defense but gave up too many fastbreak baskets to keep the game close.
"Their transition game killed us," Yarnell noted. "They had the ball out of the net and beat us down the court before we could get our defense set up."
The Spudders made 8-of-9 layins and shot better than 61 percent from the floor in the first two quarters, building a 42-15 lead by halftime.
Ridgefield's 6-foot-1 Lauren Hefflin led all scorers with 23 points, hitting 10 of 19 from the field and all three of her free throws.
But it was the Spudders' Brooke Lowery and Tiffany Dawkins on the break who inflicted the greatest damage.
Lowery and Dawkins combined for 12 points on layins and 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting in the first half.
Senior Corrine Blankenship had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Bruins, who won the battle of the backboards, 45-41, but also turned the ball over 19 times.
