La Center pulled away from Columbia in the second half Monday and finished the night with a 56-28 Trico Division victory.
Brittney Roggenkamp, held scoreless in the first quarter, scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the third and fourth quarters to spark the Wildcats (7-1 in Trico, 12-4 overall). Roggenkamp also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Ericka Ziegler led the Bruins (1-7, 7-9) with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Ziegler scored seven of her points in the first half to help Columbia keep the game close. The Bruins trailed 12-11 after one quarter and 23-15 at halftime.
But eight points by Roggenkamp in the third quarter fueled a game-changing 16-7 run that pushed La Center's lead to 39-22.
The Wildcats closed the Bruins out in the fourth period, 17-6, clinching a sweep of the season series in the process.
On a positive note, Columbia won the rebound battle, 32-24.
Ridgefield 60, at Columbia High 31:
Lauren Hefflin scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in the first half last Friday, leading Ridgefield to the Trico Division victory over host Columbia High.
Hefflin, a 6-foot-1 junior post player, dazzled the Bruins with a repertoire of polished moves around the basket that produced nine field goals and two trips to the foul line in the first 16 minutes of play.
She was the primary reason the Bruins (1-7 in Trico, 7-8 overall) weren't able to keep up with the Spudders (5-2, 9-6).
Ridgefield closed out the first quarter with a 5-0 run that turned an 11-9 lead into a 16-9 advantage.
The Spudders finished the second quarter with another run--14-2--that gave them a 34-15 cushion to sit on at halftime.
Columbia--which enjoyed two brief leads in the first quarter (2-0 and 4-2)--tried to mount a comeback in the third, putting together a six-point run (a pair of Ericka Ziegler free throws sandwiched between baskets by Mackenzie VanLaar) that cut Ridgefield's lead to 38-21.
But the Spudders quickly quashed the Bruins' rally, scoring the final 10 points of the period to stretch their lead to 27.
Ridgefield's biggest lead of the night (60-28) came in the final minute.
Castle Rock 48, at Columbia High 39:
The Bruins couldn't come all the way back from a 21-point deficit in their Jan. 24 Trico game against the Rockets.
"We were making a pretty good run at them," said Bruins Coach Mike Yarnell. "We just ran out of time."
Ericka Ziegler's double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds led Columbia (1-5, 7-7), which trailed 40-19 at the end of three quarters.
Ziegler (6), Chelan Weiler (6) and Jenny Pulido (5) combined for 17 points to spark CHS's fourth-quarter charge.
