As promised, the changes are coming. Sunday afternoon the new carpet was installed in one of the one classrooms at the Lyle Activity Center. The carpet was purchased at a discount, installed by a volunteer carpet layer and paid for by donations from generous citizens. Soon a new roof will be installed over the boiler room and then it can be utilized for storage.
Another change that came about to the Activity Center this week...the community is working as a team to refurbish the building and make it clean, attractive and useful. The dumpster the school used was removed due to cost and a new garbage can was donated about 6 months ago. It was put out side once a week for pickup and returned inside the next day. This week when it was to be returned, it was missing. No where to be found. A new phenomenon? Did it grow legs? Or...did someone just need a new garbage can?
The EDA grant proposals will be presented in Goldendale Thursday, Jan. 13. Lyle has two request. The Fire Department is requesting funds for safety and training equipment and the OLESS is requesting funds for an LED lighted sign. It would be used to share community information, activities and/or emergencies.
Excerpts from the book "Early History of Klickitat County" copyright by Jim Attwell 1977: "Chapter Four - In Rowland Saga -- I got my violin in White Salmon from a fellow who said it was 40 years then. That was August of 1899. It cost $12.50. I've been offered $250.00 for it twice but I wouldn't take $400.
"There's the picture of my first wife." Mr. Rowland said proudly, pointing to the photograph of a young lady pasted inside the violin case."
"The present Mrs. Rowland who was sitting nearby pretended not to hear. An examination of the photograph showed the pin-up girl's pose was quite unusual. She was sitting in a straight back chair with her back to the camera. Her thick luxuriant hair hung in loose waves over the back of the chair and reached to the floor."
However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
