WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High Bruins won two of three Trico League girls basketball games to solidify their second-place position in the eight-team standings.
The Bruins (4-1 league, 7-3 overall) capped a successful week with a 44-17 Trico League home win Jan. 10 over the Fort Vancouver High Trappers (0-5 league, 1-10 overall). It marked the Bruins’ largest margin of victory, and it was also the fewest points allowed this season.
The Bruins started strong in the first week of 2025 with 55-47 road win Jan. 6 over the La Center High Wildcats (2-3 league, 5-6 overall). The Bruins trailed 14-13 after one quarter and then outscored the Wildcats 15-9 in the second to take a 28-23 halftime lead, which they would not relinquish.
Columbia had three players who scored in double figures, including junior Halle Kock, who had a team-high in three statistical categories with 17 points, six assists and four steals. Sophomore Joella Posini added 11 points and 11 rebounds), and junior Sara Miller had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bruins lost their first league game 54-28 to the first place Seton Catholic High Cougars (5-0 league, 5-6 overall) Jan. 8 in Vancouver, snapping a three-game win streak. The Bruins fell behind early at 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and they were just unable to overcome the deficit. Posini had nine points, five steals and six rebounds, and Miller added seven points and eight rebounds.
