Tennis Gala happens Sept. 15-17

An end-of-summer tradition in Hood River returns this month: the third Annual Community Tennis Gala, Sept. 15-17 at Tsuruta Courts (adjacent to Hood River Aquatic Center). Competition will be in Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Competition starts Thursday evening and ends with the Finals and Gala on Sept. 17 from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

HRMGA concludes season on Sept. 18

Hood River Men’s Golf Association held a one-man scramble on Aug.28.

Winners were:

First place, Bill DeBorde; second place, Bill Payne; third place, Tim Wingerd; fourth place, Scotty Lindsey.

This scramble was managed by Bill Payne. Basically it meant that a golfer had the choice of hitting a second ball every time. He could play one, or take a second shot and select the one that he wanted

Winners of the five KP holes were:

Hole 3, Bill Payne — $10; Hole 7, Dave Waller — $25 certificate, New York City Sub Shop; Hole 11, Harold McBain, license cover; Hole 15, Bill Van Ek — $25 Bette’s Place Gift certificate; Hole 17, Doug Hamada — $10.

In addition, member Bill Gillette donated $100 that was used to partially cover the meals provided by Ravens Nest. He has also donated to help cover costs for the Club Championship.

The last tournament of the year is the Club Championship, scheduled for Sept. 18. Cost is $45 and includes a lunch at Ravens Nest. It is open to non-members, and cash prizes are on the line.
