THE DALLES — Sophomore Willow Ziegenhagen and junior Evelyn Rogers led the efforts of The Dalles High track and field team at the April 11, T Smith Need For Speed invitational meet at Sherwood High School.
Ziegenhagen won the javelin throw with a best mark of 120 feet, 10 inches, and Rogers, a junior, was second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 34 feet. Competition was keen at the meet, which included 46 schools, many of them from the state’s larger classifications. Ziegenhagen has the second best javelin throw this season in Class 4A at 129-2.
Also for the Riverhawk girls, senior Laura Black was sixth in the pole vault at 8 feet.
The Dalles boys were led by Patrick Rankin and Tyson Long. Rankin raced to a personal best 43.67-second 300-meter hurdles effort, and Long ran a season best 1:59.01 to finish sixth in the 800 meters. They combined with teammates Noah Preston and Zachary Rawls to run the 4x400 relay in 3:36.33. For Preston, his relay leg came on the heels of a 52.03-second open 400 earlier in the meet.
Long’s 800 time ranks him No. 3 in Class 4A thus far in the 2026 season. The boys long relay is now No. 6 in 4A.
In field events, junior Conner Hajek threw the shot put a personal best 43-7.
